Traeger Pellets Warranty

When you read the fine print on the warranty for Traeger grills they note that the warranty assumes normal use.

They also go on to note that “Fuels not compatible with the unit have been used” will void the warranty.

This includes using wood pellets by another manufacturer.

However, Traeger’s brand of wood pellets doesn’t carry any sort of warranty themselves.

What matters is that the fine print in Traeger’s warranty policies voids coverage if fuels not compatible with the unit have been used.”

This includes wood pellets intended for a wood pellet stove or furnace as well as those “purchased outside of Traeger or its authorized dealers.”

In the real world the warranty associated with wood pellet issues typically only matters the most if your auger is damaged by a wood pellet jam caused by another brand of wood pellets.

A burn-back incident caused by dust and food fibers trapped in the auger shaft could also void the warranty coverage.

Most base model Traeger wood pellet grills come with a blanket 3-year warranty.

Though some of their higher-end models have superior warranty coverage that includes tiers as part of a limited extended warranty.

Traeger WiFIRE enabled and non-connected grills have a limited 7-year warranty.

Though the 7-years of protection are on the main grill body, hopper cover, and other major components.

The rest of the grill components only carry three years of warranty protection.

The rest of the lesser components only have 1-year warranty protection included in the original purchase.

At the top of the Traeger line, the Traeger Timberline and the Traeger XL have a 10-year limited warranty.

Though here again, only the body, legs, cabinet doors, bottom shelf, painted shelf, and hopper cover come with the full 10-years.

A lot of the other critical internal components have 3-years of coverage, with some of the lesser components only coming with a single year of warranty protection.

Do Traeger Pellets Have A Warranty?

Trager wood pellets don’t carry a warranty themselves, though Traeger support considers them to be the only compatible fuel to use for burning in their wood pellet grills.

Using another brand of wood pellets in a Traeger grill can be construed as being “purchased outside of Traeger or its authorized dealers.”

Especially if the dust from those competitor wood pellets in the grill causes a back burn incident as one of the other clauses that voids warranty coverage is “Damage caused by grill fires.”

Traeger Warranty Policy

Most Traeger grills are warranted against defects in material and workmanship under normal use and maintenance for a period of three (3) years from the date of original purchase.

However, the warranty does not include labor charges connected with the determination or replacement of defective parts, or freight charges to ship these parts.

Other key points to note include that warranty is void if the unit is not assembled or operated in accordance with the operation instructions provided with this unit;

the unit is resold or traded to another owner; components, accessories, or fuels are not compatible with the unit have been used;

the unit has been used in commercial or food service application, or the user has abused or otherwise failed to maintain the unit.

Some of Traeger’s high-end models carry more than the standard three-year warranty.

Non-connected grills and WiFIRE enabled Traeger grills come with a 7-year Limited Warranty.

However, the 7-years of coverage only applies to the body, lid, and hopper cover.

The grates, controller, and all-terrain wheels on these models only have 3-years of coverage.

Everything else, including the fan, auger motor, hot rod, cord, RTD, thermocouples, the heat baffle, and drip tray only comes with one year of warranty coverage.

At the top of their line, the Traeger Timberline and the Traeger XL come with a robust 10-year limited warranty.

Here again, only the body, legs, cabinet doors, bottom shelf, painted shelf, and hopper cover come with the full 10-years.

Three years of warranty coverage protects the controller, auger motor, auger, fan, drip tray, heat shield, the heat baffle, interior enamel rack holder, and grill grates.

Everything else with the Traeger Timberline and XL comes with 1 year of warranty protection.

It’s also worth noting that Traeger wood pellet grills require you to register yourself as the original purchaser, in order to activate the warranty.

This matters in that the warranty is void if “the grill is resold or traded to another owner.”

What Does The Warranty for Traeger Pellets Do?

Traeger grills have some specific and vague verbiage related to wood pellet use and how it impacts the warranty.

They note that the warranty is void if “fuels not compatible with the unit have been used,” or “purchased outside of Traeger or its authorized dealers.”

These terms are especially important if the damage initiating the warranty claim attempt is caused by a burn-back incident related to wood pellet dust from another manufacturer’s wood pellets.

As “Damage caused by grill fires” will also void the warranty coverage on a Traeger grill.

It’s also worth noting that the warranty coverage fine print includes voiding the warranty if “wood stove heating pellets are used in the grill.”

Does the Traeger Pellet Warranty Really Matter?

The Traeger wood pellet warranty only really matters if you need to make a warranty claim due to auger damage caused by an auger jam or a burn back incident from using another manufacturer’s brand of wood pellets.

You need to be mindful of this when contacting Traeger’s customer services.

Final Thoughts

Traeger grills warranty policies include verbiage about conditions that void coverages.

This includes abusive practices including using “Fuels not compatible with the unit” which will void the warranty.

This includes using wood pellets by another manufacturer.

Though wood pellets made by Traeger themselves don’t carry a direct warranty themselves.

Most of the time, the warranty associated with wood pellet problems will really only matter if your Traeger’s auger is damaged by a wood pellet jam caused by another brand of wood pellets.

Though a dangerous burn back incident caused by dust and food fibers trapped in the auger shaft might also void warranty coverage.

In these incidents, Traeger’s customer service will likely ask you what kind of wood pellets you were using when the incident occurred, and you will need to be mindful of your answer.

The majority of Traeger wood pellet grills come with a standard 3-year warranty.

However, a few of their newer high-end models have superior warranty coverage that includes tiers as part of a limited extended warranty.

Traeger WiFIRE enabled and non-connected grills come with a limited 7-year warranty on the main grill body, hopper cover, and other major components.

Most of the internal mechanical components only have the standard 3-years of coverage.

The lesser components only have 1-year of warranty protection included in the original purchase.

The Traeger Timberline and the Traeger XL both come with a 10-year limited warranty on the body, legs, cabinet doors, bottom shelf, painted shelf, and hopper.

Many of the important internal components, like the auger, auger motor and the fan have 3-years of coverage, with some of the lesser components only coming with one year of warranty coverage.
