Traeger App Timer Not Working

Traeger has made many updates to the popular WiFIRE app that helps monitor their newer grills like the Traeger Timberline, Ironwood, and Costco Traeger Silverton.

Though one common complaint that arose from the update in 2020 is that the app timer doesn’t make an audible alert unless it is the foreground app actively running on your smartphone.

Sometimes firmware and other updates between your grill and your smartphone can be out of synch.

You can usually remedy this by performing a hard reset of the grill and the wireless device it is paired with via the WiFIRE app.

One of the great things about the Traeger WiFIRE app is that it lets you control your wood pellet grill from just about anywhere. Your Traeger grill uses a Wi-Fi antenna to connect to Traeger’s servers, and then Traeger’s servers connect your smartphone or tablet.

As long as both your phone and your Traeger grill have a signal, you can monitor and control it, even when you are miles away from home.

What Is the Traeger App Timer

The Traeger app timer is one of many monitoring features built into Traeger’s WiFIRE app. In one of the newer updates, the timer will only make an audible alert when it’s running in the foreground of your smartphone or tablet.

If you move the app to the background of your wireless device, it merely sends you a text message, or it can send a vibration alert to a Smartwatch.

Why Is the Traeger App Not Working?

Firmware compatibility can be an issue that causes the Traeger WiFIRE app to not work on a paired device. Power cycling the grill and the wireless device and pairing them again will usually install the correct updates to get the app working correctly again.

What Should I Do If My Traeger App Timer Is Not Working?

If your Traeger WiFIRE app or the timer on the app aren’t working correctly, you need to first make sure that you are using the latest version of the Traeger App. You also need to make sure that your grill is running the latest Firmware.

After checking all the updates, you can power cycle both your phone and the grill. You can factory reset the grill and then pair it again through the WiFIRE app installed on your smartphone or tablet.

How Do I Reset My Traeger App?

Resetting your Traeger app is relatively simple and takes only a few minutes. You can do it using the following steps.

Step One: Turn off the grill and then unplug it.

Step Two: Leave the grill unplugged for 60 seconds. Then Force quit the Traeger WiFIRE app on your wireless device

Step Three: Go into your wireless device to Settings > Connections > Data Usage > Mobile Data. Then toggle the data button to the OFF position.

Step Four: Plug the Traeger grill back in and turn it on.

Step Five: Open the Traeger WiFIRE App.

Step Six: Pair your Traeger grill with the app.

Step Seven: Go back into your wireless device to Settings > Connections > Data Usage > Mobile Data. Then toggle the data button to the ON position.

Does Traeger App Work Away From Home?

Traeger’s WiFire app connects your smartphone or another wireless device to your Traeger wood pellet grill at any distance. It lets you closely monitor the grill’s performance even when you are away from home.

This is possible because the Traeger grill connects to Traeger’s own servers via a Wi-Fi signal and a built-in Wi-Fi antenna on the grill itself.

Your device then connects to Traeger’s servers and uses them as the bridge to let you monitor and control your grill remotely.

So long as the grill has a Wi-Fi connection, and your phone has internet access you can connect to it through the WiFIRE app.

Final Thoughts

Many of Traeger’s newer grills like the Traeger Timberline, the Ironwood series, and Costco Traeger Silverton can be monitored and controlled via the Traeger WiFIRE app.

Though sometimes the firmware updates don’t work perfectly, which can cause the timer app to not mail an audible alert.

If the WiFIRE app isn’t the foreground app running on your wireless device, it might only send you a text message or buzz your smartwatch. Though if there is an issue with the WiFIRE app or the signal with your Traeger wood pellet grill, you can usually resolve it with a hard restart of both devices.

This calls for powering down the Traeger grill, as well as turning off the mobile data feature on your smartphone.

You can then power up the grill and pair the device again via the built-in WiFIRE app.

Traeger WiFIRE app was designed to make it easy to monitor you control your Traeger grill even when you are away from home.

It does this by connecting the Traeger grill via a built-in Wi-Fi antenna to Traeger’s servers, and then your wireless device connects to Traeger’s servers to create a seamless experience at virtually any distance.
