Power outages can sometimes be a pain, especially when you are in the middle of something important like grilling or cooking anything.

Traegers operate on electricity as much as they do on cooking heat sources. When the power goes out, so does the Traeger.

We have all the answers as to what to do should this happen to you while cooking with the Traeger.

Read on to find out what to do when there is a power outage and what to do with the Traeger to reset it so you can keep grilling.

Traeger Power Outage Procedure

If the power goes out while you are cooking, don’t panic. The first thing you need to do is check and see if the breakers have been tripped. If they haven’t been, check to see if there is power at your outlet by plugging in another appliance.

If there isn’t power, flip the breaker back on and wait a few minutes to see if the Traeger powers back on and working correctly.

If the Traeger doesn’t power back on or the breakers are tripped, you will need to reset the circuit board.

To do this, unplug the Traeger from the outlet and remove any batteries in it.

Once these have been removed, press and hold the reset button on the circuit board for 30 seconds.

After 30 seconds have passed, plug the Traeger back in and turn it on.

This should reset the Traeger grill and allow you to get back to grilling.

We hope this never happens to you, but if it does, now you know what to do.

Be sure to check your breakers first and if all else fails, reset the circuit board by unplugging the Traeger, removing any batteries, pressing and holding the reset button for 30 seconds, and then plugging it back in.

What to Do If Trager Loses Power

If your Trager loses power, you can do a few things to restart it. First, check the circuit breaker and make sure it hasn’t tripped. If it has, simply reset it and try again.

If that doesn’t work, unplug the pellet hopper from the back of the unit and plug it back in.

You may also need to remove and reinsert the pellets themselves.

Once you’ve done all of that, try restarting the Traeger. It should now be working correctly.

Traeger Still Smoking After Shutdown

There are a few things you can do to turn off your Traeger:

  1. Check the power supply. If the power cord is unplugged, plug it back in and turn off the breaker if necessary.
  2. Check the igniter. If it’s dirty, clean it with a wire brush.
  3. Check the Pellet Hopper Lid Switch.

If it’s dirty, clean it with a damp cloth.

Your Traeger should turn off properly once you’ve checked all of these things.

If your Traeger is still smoking after the shutdown, there are a few things you can do if you want to restart it:

1. Check the power supply

2. Check the igniter

3. Check the Pellet Hopper Lid Switch

4. Clean any dirty parts

5. Turn off the breaker if necessary

6. Plug the power cord back in

7. Press the power button to restart your Traeger.

How Do You Power Cycle a Traeger?

If you experience a power outage, it is crucial to know how to correctly restart your Traeger. This process is also known as a “power cycle.”

Here are the steps to properly power cycle your Traeger:

1. Disconnect the power cord from the unit.

2. Wait 30 seconds.

3. Reconnect the power cord to the unit.

4. Turn on the unit by pressing the ON/OFF button. The igniter should click, and the auger should start turning. If this does not happen, repeat steps 1-4.

5. Place your food on the grill and preheat as usual.

After following these steps, your Traeger should be up and running again.

If you have any further questions or problems, please consult your owner’s manual or contact customer service.

Safety Tips for Traeger When the Power Goes Out

Keeping a fire extinguisher handy should always top the list of safety whenever you are using your Traeger.

Next to fire, electricity is just as dangerous, if not worse. Here are some more tips to keep you safe if there is a power outage at your location:

  • If you smell gas, do not attempt to restart your Traeger. Evacuate the area immediately and call your local gas company.
  • Do not use any electrical devices near water. This includes plugs, outlets, and cords.
  • Be sure to have a flashlight with fresh batteries for each family member in case of a power outage.
  • If you are using candles for light, be sure to blow them out before bed.
  • If you are using a generator, keep it away from any open windows or doors to prevent deadly carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • If you must leave your home, be sure to unplug all appliances and electronics to avoid a fire hazard when the power comes back on.

Final Thoughts

As we mentioned earlier, it’s essential to make sure that you clean your grill thoroughly before cooking on it again.

We also recommend letting the grill cool entirely before restarting it. If there are any significant issues, do not hesitate to contact Traeger Customer Service for any questions or concerns.
