Costco Traeger Review (6 Things To Know)

Costco Traeger Review

Costco sells its own lineup of Traeger wood pellet grills that are closely based on other popular models in Traeger’s main lineup.

The Silverton 620 is one of the most popular Traeger grills Costco sells.

It is closely based on the Traeger Ironwood, and has much of the same material build quality and exacting manufacturing standards.

Though there are a few minor differences in the shape of the primary cooking chamber, and some of the special features.

It’s also worth noting that the Traeger Silverton 620 sold at Costco has a slightly lower price tag than a similar size Ironwood.

It’s a great opportunity for Costco members to get a high-quality wood pellet grill for a lower price than going direct to Traeger

You can often find the Traeger Silverton 610 on sale for as low as $899, whereas the equivalent Traeger Ironwood 650 is sold for between $1,199 and $1,399.

Traeger’s primary competitors in the wood pellet grill industry have caught up to the original pioneer.

Top alternative brands include Camp Chef, Pit Boss, Weber, and Rec Tec grills.

Traeger Silverton 620 Review

The Traeger Silverton 620 features D2 engineering and Traeger’s integrated WiFIRE app to let you monitor and adjust the temperature, just like the Traeger Ironwood.

It gives you true 6-in-1 versatility to grill, smoke, bake, roast, braise, and barbecue all in one unit.

It comes with a 20-pound capacity wood pellet hopper and 624 square inches of grill grate cooking space.

The hopper doesn’t come with a pellet sensor, but it’s available as an optional upgrade.

The Traeger Silverton 620 is made from the same high-quality materials and exacting standards as the other wood pellet grills in Traeger’s line.

This means you get a grill that is easy to use and performs how you want it to, at Costco’s low price.

Traeger Silverton 620 Price

The Traeger Silverton is sold at Costco for around $899.

This is a great deal compared to the Traeger Ironwood 650 it is based on, which is usually sold for between $1,199 and $1,399!

Traeger Silverton 620 Performance

The Traeger Silverton performs just like other high-quality Traeger wood pellet grills

It heats up rapidly and is easy to control via the WiFIRE app you install on your smartphone.

It is versatile enough to grill, smoke, bake, roast, braise, and barbecue. It’s even rated to get as high as 500-degrees.

What Brand Is Better Than Traeger?

Traeger’s top competitors in the wood pellet grill niche include Rec Tec, Weber, Pit Boss, Green Mountain, and Camp Chef.

Many of these manufacturers have special features or engineering designs that let them do things that Traeger grills can’t always do.

One example of this is the Pit Boss, which sells several models with a sliding broiler plate.

This lets you sear steaks and chops directly over open flames, which is something that Traeger grills can’t do.

Weber’s SmokeFire wood pellet grills can attain high temperatures of up to 600-degrees, whereas Traeger grills typically struggle to reach 500.

Weber also designed their wood pellet grills to manage airborne ash better and made them easier to cleanout.

Camp Chef sells models that also have a sliding broiler plate for direct flame grilling, as well as wood pellet grills with a sear station that attaches to the side table of the grill.

Many outdoor cooks will also note that Camp Chef’s smoke density is easier to adjust, and the pellet purge system is easier to operate than Traeger

Rec Tec has a lot of the same functionality and quality as Traeger with a much larger hopper for longer smoking sessions.

They also tend to sell their grills with extra bags of wood pellets included in the purchase, while also backing their grills with a 5-or-6-year warranty compared to the standard 3-year warranty Traeger offers.

So, while it’s hard to choose a clear-cut winner in the wood pellet industry, it’s clear that Traeger’s competitors have caught up with models that are well worth your hard-earned dollars.

Final Thoughts

The lineup of Traeger wood pellet grills sold at Costco includes a variety of models that are closely based on other popular Traeger grills.

Of these, the Silverton 620 has a lot to offer, at a modest average price of $899.

The Costco Silverton 620 is based on the Traeger Ironwood, with much of the same high-end components and exacting quality standards.

Yet, there are a few minor differences in the shape of the primary cooking chamber, as well as some of the special features, that set the Silverton and the Ironwood apart.

However, these differences are minor.

They do not affect the performance or the versatility of the Costco Silverton 620.

It is a true 6-in-1 wood pellet grill that can grill, smoke, bake, roast, braise, and barbecue.

Traeger even rates it for a maximum temperature of up to 500-degrees.

While Traeger is the original pioneer in the wood pellet grill industry, many of the competitors have stepped up to offer high-quality grills.

This includes Camp Chef, Pit Boss, Weber, and Rec Tec, who all have models that can do things a typical Traeger can’t do.
